Romanian Folk Dress

This publication highlights some of the embroidered Romanian clothing in the Maryhill Museum of Art collection. Romanian folk arts have been part of the museum since the institution’s founding, starting with a 1926 donation by Queen Marie of Romania. Nearly a century after the arrival of that gift, the museum holdings now contain almost 500 Romanian textiles. This text features color images of blouses, chemises, full women’s costumes, vests, and coats, along with historic photographs and copious notes.
